INTRODUCTION

WHICHWAY ADVENTURES - THE COMPANY
This success story, with humble beginnings, was borne of some fun-loving and enthusiastic individuals who shared a love of the outdoors and thrived on adventure .......

With much previous experience on rivers, weekends were spent rafting friends down many different rivers in South Africa, until in 1990 this became a viable start to a river rafting company, and so Which Way Adventures was born. Having travelled extensively in Africa, we watched with interest the advent of southbound overlander trucks, and noticed a large gap .... where were the northbound expeditions? We decided to fill that gap, resulting in yet another birth .... our yellow overland vehicles. This added a new dimension to the business and slowly but surely, with a few vehicles on the road, the Which Way bird started to spread its wings. So why yellow trucks? Well, so that we would be noticed of course. And we have! Our trucks have even been likened to the Yellow Cabs in New York, as they are seen so frequently throughout Africa.

And we continue to grow. From a simple start of an office and workshop at home, we have, over the years, progressed to a 1000square metre building; housing the office and workshop under one roof. Our staff total 50 and we have over 200 scheduled and group departures per annum.

We have developed a variety of products, from overland expeditions and adventure tours to luxury tailor made guided tours and self-drive itineraries. We pride ourselves on our professional, friendly and complete service and with dedicated staff such as we have, we cannot help but be the present day success that we are ..... please read on and get excited - then fill in our on-line reservation or enquiry form - we'd love to tell you more about how we can help you enjoy the great outdoors of Africa.

WHAT IS AN OVERLAND EXPEDITION?
An overland expedition is a journey along a suggested route aimed at the more adventurous and budget-conscious traveller.

It is off the beaten track, and many of the areas visited do not have the infrastructure that the package tourist may require.

The route taken may also vary from time to time due to various factors.

WHO IS SUITED TO UNDERTAKE AN OVERLAND EXPEDITION?
Our groups generally number up to about twenty people, from all walks of life, and of various nationalities: most of our passengers are from Australia, New Zealand, UK, Europe, North and South America. Although there are often couples and groups of friends who have booked together, most travellers are single and the male-female mix generally works out about even.

Overlanding is for people who love life and want to embrace it with passion, who care about culture, people and wildlife. As all of our scheduled departures are participation trips, it is very important that travellers have a positive attitude and are prepared to put in their fair share towards various everyday camping activities. Joining in is what turns a great trip into an unforgettable journey. With the right attitude we can guarantee that travellers will get the most out of their overland experience!

The nature of overlanding tends to attract a certain age group, and experience has shown us that our overland trips are unsuitable for the majority of travellers outside the 16 to 55 age bracket. We do however accept a limited number of people older than 55 years on trips other than the Cape to Kenya expedition, and our office will be able to supply more information on this. Suitability for our trips is not just about fitness - it's about being willing and able to join in. It's about being able to take the rough with the smooth - whether you're up to your elbows in mud rescuing your sinking truck, climbing the nearest tree in an attempt to escape from charging buffaloes or searching for the only bush in the desert to squat behind - expect the unexpected!

Our belief is that it's not so much just the arrival at a destination, but the total experience of the expedition that is important. We travel together, learn from each other's cultures and form a strong, supportive and fun team. Although our guides are FGASA registered, they are not "heroes" and won't pamper you. They are, however, enthusiastic and ready for anything and will always get you through the tough times with a smile.

FOOD.
Our vehicles are well stocked with staple foods at the beginning of each expedition. We try to maintain as much variety throughout the expedition as possible, restocking from stores and markets along the way. Fruit and vegetables are fairly easy to obtain on all our routes, although certain seasons are more abundant than others and whilst we make no special provision for vegetarians, we have found in the past that there is ample choice available. Travellers are divided into cooking teams by our crew, who will give some guidance if cooking skills are lacking! We cook on gas stoves as well as on the open fire. We supply all cooking equipment, crockery and cutlery.

VEHICLES.
We custom build our trucks to suit their application: large glass windows for game and scenery viewing.... which when open, give the feeling of being in an open vehicle, but you have the luxury of protection from the worst elements when necessary. The interior is spacious with forward facing, comfortable coach style seating. There is ample space inside the vehicle to store your day packs. The large enclosed packing area at the rear of the vehicle holds the camping gear and luggage (12 kg limit on luggage per person), with separate shelving for the food. Each vehicle has a large water tank and a fully equipped kitchen, with fold down tables and overhead tarpaulins in case of inclement weather. There are two safes on board. All of our trucks have Mercedes Benz diesel engines, providing more than ample power for all situations.

ACCOMMODATION, AND EQUIPMENT
We generally use formal campsites along the way, with running water and basic facilities. Longer trips may provide the opportunity to "bush camp" in a wild area with no facilities whatsoever. On certain of the expeditions, basic rest-house/dorm-style accommodation is provided. We provide large dome tents which are shared by two people and have built-in ground sheets and mosquito netting. Camping chairs, tables and cooler boxes are also provided. Sleeping bags androll mats can be hired from us - check the booking form for more details.

TOUR FARE AND LOCAL PAYMENT
The full tour price is made up of the tour fare, payable as a 35% deposit to secure your booking and the balance payable one month prior to departure in South African Rand, as well as a local payment which is paid to our guides on departure of the tour. Most of our expeditions require that the local payment be paid in US$ cash. Please note that the local payment is not a food kitty. All camp meals are included in our cost. The local payment is collected to cover the park fees and excursions (normally charged in US$) that we have included into our tour cost. By keeping these charges in US$ we can avoid any unnecessary surcharges due to exchange rate fluctuations.

COMBINING EXPEDITIONS
Our itineraries and expedition departures have been designed with the most adventurous spirit in mind, enabling you to explore central, southern and east Africa with us. You can take a quick break of just 11 days or you can get away for up to a total of 12 weeks by combining a selection of expeditions.

"With Which Way Adventures, you will be guaranteed a trip of a lifetime - for many it may be a dream come true."

"It's different, it's unexpected - it's AFRICA ....."

ECO-TOURISM
The ultimate objective of eco-tourism is for clients to have a pleasant and enriching experience of nature, and at the same time, cause the least possible disturbance to ecosystems. At Which Way Adventures our guides have strict environmental policies which we endeavor toinstill in all of our passengers, such as:

Respect for people and places that we visit.
An educational approach to fauna and flora.
Effective waste management.
Considerate behavior in game reserves.
