INTRODUCTION

WELCOME TO
WAGON TRAILS TRAVEL

Welcome to Wagon Trails, a company known for our uniqueness on the long overland roads of Africa. Our first kombi departed from Jo'burg seven years ago and since then many travellers from all over the world have enjoyed adventure after adventure through the extreme, unpredictable but spectacular continent of Africa. We hope that you can also find an adventure in our brochure that will give you a lifetime memory and an unforgettable journey through our mystical land.

ADVENTURES IN AFRICA.....

All our trips cater for clients who are short on time or do not want along haul overland.

If you are just passing through Africa for a short time then one of our weekly departures to Kruger Park, Victoria Falls, Okavango Delta, or Mozambique can fit into your travel plans with little extra cost and heaps of African experience to gain.

They say only the brave dare explore Africa as it is known to be challenging and unpredictable which can capture your heart and soul forever.

When in Africa be like an African and you will see more and feel respect for the continent.

African culture is unique compared with all other parts of the world, and your stay here should be an adventure.

THE AFRICAN CULTURE & WAGON TRAILS.
Please understand Africa - it's not dependant on appointments and promptness, but the friendliness and innocence of it's People.

In each destination Wagon Trails visits, we put travellers in touch with the locals who share their land and life with pride - from the 'polers' in the Okavango Delta, to local shebeen in a village in Swaziland. These people are going about their daily lives, and are proud to share it with you. Participate and touch real Africa - choose a Wagon Trail and Trek the routes with us.

If you would like to spend time in Africa, but your circumstances limit you, our adventures will ensure you understand and enjoy our African world the fullest. if you have longer these tours can be combined to give you a more comprehensive look at this inspiring land.

PARTICIPATION.

Don’t be too scared or too shy to participate in the running of the tour i.e. making campfires, cooking, changing tyres, sharing food with local tribes.

If this doesn’t sound like you maybe you should consider a more conservative type of tour.

Remember, the more you put in, the more you get out.

THE WAGON - YOUR VEHICLE & EQUIPMENT.

Wagon Trails treks through Southern Africa in unmarked vehicles appropriate to the terrain, itinerary and group size, to give you comfort and space and to conceal your identity as a tourist as much as possible. Thus bringing Africa into your hands.

Particular tours enable us to use 4x4 open landrovers for Safari’s.

All wagons on longer tours carry water, cooler box, stereo, camping and cooking gear, which keeps you self sufficient - even in the middle of the desert.

YOUR CREW.

In most cases our drivers are local Africans as they have Africa and the off beat tracks at their fingertips, knowledge of local languages, and a sense of humour that can’t be resisted.

In addition to the driver each vehicle has an escort to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible, and you get the most out of your adventure.

WAGON TRAILS BEHIND THE SCENES.

Our staff in Johannesburg and Durban are experts on Africa with years of experience.

Being local Africans and travellers, we have insight to combat any problems you may encounter.

We’re also here to help with all your travel needs and ensure you make the most of your time in our land.

Join Wagon Trails on our tours and we will provide you with an unforgettable wildlife and cultural insight into Africa that will last a life time.

ADDITIONAL INFO

With Wagon Trails being a local African company you'll feel right at home with us, as we know all the in's and out's of every day life and will always strive to give you the best value for your money. We see tourism in Africa as a means of financing the developing world without handouts, improving the lives of many people by creating employment and providing education for children. All of us at Wagon Trails are committed to providing local communities with the direct benefits of tourism and encourage development by utilising facilities and infrastructures provided by small local businesses. These people try hard to please you, thus you get excellent service and daily see parts of you tour costs at work.

The most important factor on a tour is you and all our clients. You make the tour a success with your positive input and desire to have fun, even if you experience some of the hardships of Africa. If you fit the part of energetic, adventurous, relish roughing it from time to time, and enjoy a few sundowners while watching elephants and lions drinking at a waterhole, then it's best you join us on an Awesome Adventure Holiday in Africa.

Come on, it'll be fun!!!

Our Workshop
Our depot is based in Johannesburg where we have a workshop dedicated to the maintenance of our fleet. This means that our backup service is excellent and our experienced workshop staff will sort out any difficulties personally.

What is included and what not
All trips in this brochure include the services of an experienced Wagon Trails driver / guide, camping equipment (2 man dome tents & hiking mats), mobile safari kitchen, camping fees, all ground transportation and meals per itinerary. Not included is your personal spending money, visa’s (if required), travel insurance, or a sleeping bag (these may be hired from us when you book).

To try to avoid hidden costs, we state what activities in the itinerary are included in the tour cost and those that are optional. As a general rule, trips 14 days and less have most activities included, whilst on the longer trips we have made more flexibility by leaving more activities optional. In addition adventure activities (such as white water rafting) that may not suit everyone’s interests and budget are left optional on all tours. For a comprehensive list of these and rates just ask your travel agent.

Meals
Wagon Trails provides the majority of meals on each trip. We do not operate a food kitty system to save time and hassle for everyone. Each itinerary states what meals are included on that tour. If a meal is not included we will stop at suitable places where something can be purchased to eat at a reasonable cost. This means we have more time for our schedule, and you get another local African experience.
Every effort is made to cater for special dietary requirements, however due to local supplies this is sometimes not possible for everyone. If you have a special diet you will be expected to help the crew with your meals. If you have a particular requirement please contact our office personally to ensure we can cater for you.

Participation
We have found over the years that people enjoy themselves more if they are involved in the trip - also many hands make light work! Our trips are full participation so you put up your own tent, do the dishes and help with the cooking, as well as keeping the vehicle clean.

Tour cost and local payment
Our rates consist of a tour cost and a local payment. The tour cost is paid prior to departure and the local payment in US Dollars on departure.

Due to fluctuating exchange rates in many African countries, local suppliers fix their rates in USD. The local payment, which is paid on the day of departure, goes directly to the local people who provide you with their services, campsites etc. It is not a food kitty (see “Meals”).

Tailormade Itineraries.
We have tailormade options for groups of any size, using any type of accommodation, going anywhere. If you have a group of friends or family who would like to travel together - let us know and we’ll send you a quote free of charge!
