KIA-ORA BACKPACKERS - Winner of the Best Lodge Award: -

Kia-Ora Backpackers Winners of the 1999 Award (Pretoria Business Council / A.S.A.T.A.) as "The Best Lodge in Pretoria" Kia Ora was established in 1994 and has continued to improve it's facilities and service's, eventually winning the coveted A.S.A.T.A. " Best Lodge in Pretoria" award in 1999.


Kia Ora forms part of the Central Historic Museum Park: -

Quinton Maritz, co-owner and manager of Kia Ora has said, " We are totally commited to improving and maintaining our level of service to travellers and making sure that they have an unforgettable experience in Southern Africa. Kia-Ora forms Part of the Central Historic Museum Park. Opposite Burgers Park Gardens (Oldest Park in Pretoria.)and next to Melrose House Museum. Kia-Ora was built in 1933 and has been renovated to recapture the original spirit, with wooden floors and pressed lead ceilings.

Kia-Ora Backpackers and Embassy Guesthouse is a comfortable, affordable, old-style guest house ideally situated in central Pretoria, Gauteng, South-Africa. We welcome all international backpackers and travellers. Our warm hospitality and personal service creates a home away from home. Kia Ora Backpackers offers accommodation to suit the requirements of many different guests. We have single, double and twins rooms with linen available in the guest house for backpackers and other independant travellers.


Penthouse: -

Kia Ora Backpacker offers accommodation to suit the requirements of many different guests. The following accommodation facilities are available: Dormitories: With the backpacker prominently in mind, the guest house offers beds in backpacker dormitories. Dormitories contain either five or seven beds. Breakfast and dinner is available.Rooms: Single, Double and Twin rooms with linen are available in the guest house for backpackers and other travellers.Penthouse: The penthouse incorporates a double room, twin room, single room, lounge, dining room, kitchen and two bathrooms. The penthouse is ideally suited for a family or a small group who likes to travel in style. It offers sweeping views of the historic Melrose house and the city centre beyond.


Meals: -

Meals are available at the :- HOLE IN THE WALL PUB & GRUB.

Kia Ora has a fully licensed bar that has a excellent menu catering to most tastes and our famous Peri Peri chicken, made from a portugese family secret recipe by our in house chef, Authur.

Kia Ora Backpackers also offers a wide range of entertainment to its guests.

Getting to us

By Air, Train or Car
We collect at the Johannesburg International Airport, the Pretoria train and Bus terminus. The Bus terminal is a mere 4 min walk. We are on the Baz Bus route. You can be collected or dropped off at Kia Ora, simply ask the driver.

Good lord, is it a year since I was at Kia-Ora. Wish I was there now (he says as the rain teems down) Top place this, good relaxed atmosphere, you feel at home in 5 minutes and Castle on tap, wahey! Best experienced after a few ales with a shark diver from Northampton. All the best and cheers again to Sam the Man and the gang.
